Innovation is emerging as a key theme in the disaster risk management (DRM) and wider development fields to address complex challenges and formulate more efficient and cost-effective modes of working. The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (SFDRR) 2015 – 2030 emphasizes the “use and expansion of thematic platforms of cooperation, such as global technology pools and global systems to share know‐how, innovation, and research and ensure access to technology and information on DRR.”

Reflecting this trend, and in line with the ongoing APP programs, the webinar would feature high-level insights from development partners, innovation experts, and DRM actors to shed light on the relevance of innovation to DRM and localization.

The webinar would focus on different perspectives relevant to innovation in the context of DRM, i.e., national, regional, donor view, and policy viewpoints. Inputs from representatives from these important sectors and backgrounds, including development partners, innovation initiatives, the private sector, and the government, will be solicited.

It will also throw light on how such novel and innovative solutions can be identified, nurtured, and disseminated in a more systematic and coherent manner. The specific objectives of the webinar are:

  • Draw insights from various leaders and experts on the role which innovation can play in the context of DRM;
  • Reflect on appropriate approaches and mechanisms for supporting uptake and utilization of innovations for DRM;
  • Promote shared learning and exchange of ideas for innovation in DRM from across the region and beyond.
