The Philippine Preparedness Partnership (PhilPrep) and its academic partner, the University of the Philippines Resilience Institute (UPRI), organized a roundtable discussion entitled, “Enhancing DRRM Practice with the Academe”. The session took place on 20 October 2022 at the Philippines Social Science Center (PSSC) Auditorium in Diliman, Quezon City, and via Zoom for online participants. A total of 35 in-person and 26 online leaders from the Philippine Academic Society for Climate and Disaster Resilience (PASCDR) and PhilPrep underwent workshops and plenary discussions to dive deep into the DRRM experiences of local actors while working with the academe and the possible opportunities for better collaboration in the future. Among the identified opportunities were the creation of research outputs more relatable to LGUs and the general public, mainstreaming and defining difficult terminologies, and encouraging community- and locally-led actions. The discussion was organized in partnership with the Philippine Social Science Center (PSSC), Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC), Asian Preparedness Partnership (APP), Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation (PDRF), Center for Disaster Preparedness (CDP), and Office of the Civil Defense (OCD).
