Upholding Rights-based Approaches for Humanitarian Response in the Philippines

“Throughout the training, the facilitators emphasized the importance of protecting human rights particularly during crises such as armed conflicts, displacement and disasters especially for vulnerable groups such as children and youth. The training also made me realize that community involvement is key to proper DRRM, as all stakeholders and sectors within the community need to be engaged to safeguard and protect the rights of children and youth.” – Eunice Janolino,  Project Development Officer for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Service (DRRMS) at the Department of Education (DepEd), Dipolog City, Philippines

The Philippines Preparedness Partnership (PhilPrep) is committed to safeguarding the rights and dignity of children and youth in times of disaster. This case-study is part of an initiative to capture individual stories of change by APP national chapters in each country to highlight how their interventions have benefited the communities at large. These individuals have enthusiastically participated in APP activities and taken it a step beyond to propel concrete actions in making their communities prepared for disasters.
