Nepal

The Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal is a land of mountains with over three-fourths of the country covered in mountainous ranges. The country has a population of 29.6 million people between the mountains and jungles of the country. Nepal is one of the 20 most disaster-prone countries in the world with eight out of 10 people vulnerable to earthquakes, droughts, floods, landslides, extreme temperature, and glacier lake outburst floods (GLOFs).

Nepal has an overall risk index of 5.4. The country’s most common disaster events of earthquakes (9.9), floods (6.7), and droughts (2.8).

Members of Nepal Preparedness Partnership (NPP)

MoHa Nepal was established in 2008 with the objective of maintaining peace and security and protecting lives. It is responsible for implementing disaster laws and policies as well as coordinating national and regional disaster funds.

NDRC Nepal was established in 2007. The organization focuses on disaster risk reduction (DRR), climate change adaptation (CCA), natural resource management, and contemporary socio-economic issues. Their activities in these areas include research projects, program implementation, and knowledge management. NDRC Nepal reaches 68 districts across the country.

FNCCI was established in 1961 to represent the interests of the private sector and is involved in the promotion of the socio-economic development of Nepal. It provides advisory services to stakeholders to implement business resilience training against disasters and administers the FNCCI Relief Fund.
