Bangladesh Preparedness Partnership (BPP) EOC Visiting MoDMR Team to Sri Lanka

Background:

Bangladesh, with its geographical vulnerability to various natural and human-induced disasters, has been diligently working towards enhancing its disaster management capabilities. In line with this, the Bangladesh Preparedness Partnership (BPP) has been instrumental in fostering multi-stakeholder collaboration to strengthen disaster resilience. As part of this endeavor, a delegation from the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief (MoDMR) is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka to explore best practices and foster cross-border learning.

Objectives of the Visit:

  • Emergency Operation Center Management
  • Community-based Landslide Early Warning System
  • Disaster Management Ecosystem of Srilanka from national, district, divisional, and Grama Niladhari (GN wards) and
  • Disaster Management Coordination at the District level
  • APP Model in Srilanka

Methodology:

The visit will involve hands-on learning through institutional arrangements, sharing sessions, field visits, and interactive participation. The delegation will engage with Sri Lankan disaster management authorities to gain insights into the country’s disaster management ecosystem. A comprehensive report will be prepared post-visit, and a learning-sharing session will be organized at the national level in Bangladesh to disseminate the findings.

  • The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief (MoDMR) Bangladesh: Secretary, one Joint Secretary (Male)- National Disaster Response and Coordination Council ( NDRCC) and One Joint Secretary ( Female) from  Bangladesh Preparedness Partnership (BPP) Mobilization Desk
  • ADPC: Director- PRR, ADPC- Bangkok and Senior Project Manager-ADPC Country Office- Bangladesh

Program Schedule:

The visit encompasses various activities spread across four days, including meetings, presentations, site visits, and knowledge-sharing sessions with key stakeholders in Sri Lanka’s disaster management sector.

6th May 2024 (Monday): Arrival of the MoDMR team in Sri Lanka
7th May 2024 (Tuesday): Meetings with Disaster Management Centre (DMC) officials and visits to EOC and Call Centre
8th May 2024 (Wednesday): Meetings with National Building Research Organization (NBRO) and Department of Meteorology (DoM)
9th May 2024 (Thursday): Visit to Kalutara District Disaster Management Coordinating Unit (DDMCU) and field visits to landslide-prone areas
10th May 2024 (Friday): Departure of the MoDMR team from Sri Lanka
