ToT – Community-Based Disaster Risk Management

The session will instill participants with concepts related to disaster risk management (DRM), community-based disaster risk management (CBDRM), Pakistan’s disaster history, disaster management structure, and the DRM-related global and national commitments that Pakistan is committed to. It will also familiarize the participants with hazard, vulnerability, and risk assessment with inclusion consideration of vulnerable groups. The event will provide an understanding of the process of community-based response during disasters including preparedness planning, response, response monitoring, evacuation process, multi-hazard early warning mechanisms, etc. Attendees will also be trained on the process of developing DRM Plans at the village, union council, and district level and its linkage with the government’s annual development plan.
The key outcomes of the events include:

  • Introduce trainers from respective organizations with adequate knowledge about CBDRM,
  • Validate the CBDRM manual developed by National Disaster Managament Authority, and
  • Building a pool of human resources who can train community members with the knowledge and perspectives of resilient communities and skills of facilitating capacity-building processes applying participatory methods.
