Preparation of Status Report on Preparedness for Disaster Response in Sri Lanka – Focus Group Discussions
The event seeks to explain to the Sri Lanka Preparedness Partnership’s (SLPP) approach to stakeholders in an effort to consolidate the SLPP as the future platform to connect all stakeholder agencies and monitor the implementation of future programs. It also seeks to emphasize the importance of collecting preparedness data to identify gaps and formulate an action plan to strengthen preparedness at all levels needs to be emphasized at the planned focus group discussions (FGDs). During the discussions, existing data on disaster preparedness for response at all levels will be collected and reviewed. The primary objective of the FGDs is to understand the status of preparedness for disaster response in Sri Lanka and map the capacities of various levels of the government, international and local non-governmental organizations (INGOs/LNGOs), private sector, and donor agencies. The event also seeks to achieve the following:
- developing a common understanding of the capacities of the government and other institutions in Sri Lanka on the preparedness for disaster responses,
- updating stakeholders on the status of the preparedness of government, private, and NGO sectors in responding to disasters in Sri Lanka reported and recorded, and
- identifying gaps and finding remedial action in preparedness for disaster responses in the country.
