Advancement of Gender Equality and Disaster Preparedness
Welcome to the inaugural edition of the Bangladesh Preparedness Partnership (BPP) Bi-Monthly Newsletter. This issue is released in observance of two significant dates: International Women’s Day (March 8) under the theme “For ALL women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment”, and National Disaster Preparedness Day (March 10) with the theme “Disaster forecast and preparedness save lives and reduce losses.’’
Aligned with these themes, this edition highlights how BPP is actively advancing gender equality and disaster preparedness. Throughout January and February, along with relevant events in March, we’ve been focusing on inclusive initiatives that ensure all women and girls are not only heard but are also empowered and actively engaged in building a more resilient future.
BPP is a multi-stakeholder initiative led by the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief (MoDMR), with technical assistance from the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) and funding from the Gates Foundation. At its core, BPP seeks to operationalize the Standing Orders on Disaster (SOD) 2019, which outlines the roles and responsibilities of all sectors in disaster risk management. Through a whole-of-society approach, BPP brings together government bodies, the private sector, academia, NGOs, and civil society organizations to build a more resilient and inclusive future.
