Deputy Director General of Department of Disaster Management, Myanmar giving the opening remarks.
ADPC with support from Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has formed country-level ‘preparedness partnerships’ in program countries under the “Strengthening Capacity of Government, Local Humanitarian Organizations and Private Sector on Preparedness for Response” program in South and South-East Asia. As part of the regional Asian Preparedness Partnership (APP), the Myanmar Preparedness Partnership (MPP) was formed as the national partnership network between key stakeholders by Disaster Management Department (DMD) in Myanmar.
With the establishment of the network, the MPP convened the third MPP Task Force meeting on 19 April 2018 at Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar for signing of Terms of Reference (ToR) to facilitate the partnership activities. Chaired by the Deputy Director General of Department of Disaster Management, the Task Force members deliberated and detailed out important workings for the smooth functioning of the partnership. In addition to finalizing the action roadmap, country work plan and official signing ceremony of the ToR, the meeting is a key milestone in accelerating the progress of partnership activities.
The Deputy Director General expressed how the partnership process is relevant for Myanmar as a platform representing all three key players (National Disaster Management Office, Civil Society Organisations and Private sector networks) working together to prepare for emergency response and recovery in the country.
