The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation held an 'Emergency Response Partners Forum; Strengthening Humanitarian Partnerships' from 30th October– 3rd November 2017, at The Fairmont Palm in Dubai.
The Gates Foundation believes that new approaches are needed in the humanitarian sector to become more efficient, sustainable, and to produce better outcomes for those we serve. The main objective of the Forum was to enable its grantees to share experience and expertise to find solutions for delivering the most effective, sustainable, and people-centered interventions possible. Key themes included Local Humanitarian Leadership and Humanitarian Innovation, as well as the crosscutting themes of Institutionalization of Best Practices and Measurement and Evaluation. This convening provided space to share the foundation’s Emergency Response strategy with their partners, to provide updates on the foundation’s emergency processes & procedures, and to provide a space for learning & exchange in order to sharpen the thinking on important trends in the humanitarian sector.
The staff from the Asian Preparedness Partnership (APP) Secretariat attended the Emergency Response Partners Forum to share their experiences in the region with regards to strengthening capacity of the local humanitarian leadership and building partnerships between the Government, Local Humanitarian Networks and the Private Sector for preparedness to emergency response.
