5th Regional Meeting of the Asian Preparedness Partnership
At the regional level, APP is guided by the APP Regional Steering Committee (APPRSC), supported by ADPC as its secretariat, to promote regional cooperation between the countries and accelerate locally-led actions (localization) for disaster risk management. Myanmar Preparedness Partnership (MPP), the national chapter of APP in Myanmar, took over the role of the Co-Chairs of the APPRSC for the year 2019 and is co-hosting the 5th regional meeting of the APP, under the guidance of the Department of Disaster Management (DDM), Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief & Resettlement, Government of Union of Myanmar. As APP moves into 2020, recognizing the priorities and targets of Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (SFDRR 2015-2030), the Paris Agreement, and core recommendations and calls for “localization” at the World Humanitarian Summit (WHS - 2015), it is important to take stock of achievements and lessons learned in strengthening the locally-led actions towards transforming the humanitarian ecosystem in APP countries. The 5th APP regional meeting will allow the countries to critically review the current progress and further discuss the scaling up and scaling out strategies of APP at the local, regional and global levels.
The objectives of 5th Regional Meeting of the APP are to:
o reflect and take stock of the key achievements and lessons learned from the National Preparedness Partnerships and the evaluation exercise for APP 2016-19;
o discuss ‘Theory of Change’ for APP 2019-22 and identify strategic actions for synergizing and amplifying locally-led actions to prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters at the country level; and
o discuss the way forward for consolidation and scaling up of APP at the national, regional and global levels.
