Topography A highland massif ringed by upland ridges and valleys and lowlands with a coastal fringe.
Climate The climate is tropical monsoonal. Two monsoon periods are (May–Sep.) and (Dec–Feb). The average temperature of the lowlands range between 25-30 degrees Celsius. It is modified by altitude.

DMC was established as per the provisions of the Disaster Management Act (2005) to be the executing agency of the National Council for Disaster Management (NCDM). Its primary activities include planning preparedness, broadcasting early warnings and coordinating disaster relief with other key agencies.
